In spite of the fact that Kentucky has a worldwide reputation
for distilled spirits, there are a surprising number of wineries in Kentucky,
from west to east and north to south. There are even Kentucky wineries
located in
'dry' counties. Vineyards for the first Kentucky wine were planted in the very late
1700s, though many fell by the wayside during Prohibition. Today, with the advent of agri-tourism, there are more and more wineries
in Kentucky. Since the early 1990s, the number of Kentucky wineries has
more than tripled, and the number is expected to increase further in the new
millennium, producing more and more Kentucky wine.
Kentucky is over 420 miles west to east. To narrow your search, each
Kentucky winery will be designated in one of the following four regions: NORTH/EAST
(Bluegrass, Northern River and Appalachian County); SOUTH/EAST (Daniel Boone
& Southern Lakes Country); SOUTH/WEST (Western Wetlands, Blues &
BBQ); and NORTH-CENTRAL (Kentucky Derby Country).
